  What gave you the courage to say no more

  ive been lurking for a few weeks and finally thought it was about time i joined.

  ive never posted on a forum before so please be patient with me if i screw it up.

  Like to Think (Love your name)

  There were a lot of things I didn't agree with--the treatment of women and also the emphasis on meaningless dogma and doctrine were biggies.

  I think I've written it here before, but the straw that broke the camel's back was this: my sister got disfellowshipped for living with her boyfriend. I wouldn't talk to her even though it was killing me. Talk about being torn. Well, they got married and came into a restaurant where I was working. Her husband told me they were married and I said I couldn't talk to her because she was still disfellowshipped. I realized I could no longer say such stupid things that I really didn't believe. It wasn't long until I was out. She's still my best friend--I'm so glad she forgave me.

  Describe Your Sense of Humor

  i think posting on a discussion board can tend to come across in a certain way, personality wise.. i'm the type of person "in real life" that is usually considered quite funny.

  i have a very quick wit and i can usually disable someone rather quickly with a facial expression, smile or definitive body language.

  of course, you can't see those things here but you might notice a person's humor (or lack of it) by how they post.. so what tickles your funny bone?

  Princess Daisy Boo, I know what you mean about biting your tongue, but sometimes things slip out that I wish hadn't.

  For example, there was a young man in our town who killed his wife Liz. He panicked and put her body on the train tracks and as you can imagine, her head and legs were cut off by the next train. Our family knew this couple. A few months later, I was at my brother's house and his daughter's headless, legless Barbie was on the table. "Look" I said, "It's a Liz doll!" There was stunned silence for a few seconds, then everyone burst out laughing. It was awful, I know, but we sometimes have a black sense of humor. They still tease me about it and I think I still blush.

  Of The 5 Meetings, Was There One You Hated More Than The Others?

  usually, i enjoyed the public talk, if the speaker was good but i thought the theocratic ministry was boring!!!.

  the service meeting was just a sales meeting.

  the book studies were simply ridiculous.

  They were all bad, but I especially hated the book study. It was always arcane crap that I couldn't care less about. Chariot wheels, harlots, oh, my! Plus one place we went, they still had the plastic on the couch (rhymes with "ouch"; when you got up in the summer, half of your thighs were stuck on the plastic. Plus, if you wiggled from boredom, the plastic made horrible noises. Plus, the reader was a dear man who was the worst reader I've ever heard. It was pure torture listening to him try to sound out the words. Plus, the interested old lady who came wearing a see-through negligee she thought was a dress. Oh yes, those were the days.

  My life used to be so non-stuff! (Guy-grumping)

  when i was a bachelor, i had a very simple life: a bed, a tv, a computer, a stereo, and a couch.

  no storage rooms, no closets full of stuff: everything i owned was straightforward and functional.. now?

  well, bikerchic is having me haul around all these boxes and totes and piles of stuff for christmas, and i swear we must have about 47,000 tons of stuff that even she doesn't know where some of the stuff came from.. it must be genetic.. .

  Three Sisters Came by the house yesterday

  i saw a car pull up in the driveway.

  i was at my computer trying to order some tickets from ticketmaster, having a hard time with some details.. then i saw one sister, two then three get out of the car......up to my door.. i had a towel on my head (just got done coloring my hair) new clothes pulled out in the living room for my grand daughter, she was laid out of the sofa watching hannah montana.........i looked like hell.

  they, of course, all dressed up.. it was around two, and i figure they had been out in service and was finishing up their time.

  I have a brother who shows up without calling and he's not even a witness. He will walk right in if the door is unlocked and sometimes has a friend with him. I've asked and asked him to call first--he now calls (sometimes), so we've made progress.

  My sister recently got an apartment in a complex that has a locked outer door. Visitors are supposed to use the intercom and be buzzed in. We were laughing and saying that bro wouldn't be able to just show up at the apartment door. Last week there was a knock on her door and it was bro and wife. We found that all the other tenants (most of them older) let anyone in. The joke was on us! That's some real security.

  When I was a witness, I hated how we just showed up at other witnesses or interested people's houses while in service and expected to be welcomed with open arms. Of course, coffee or tea and use of the bathroom was expected too. What a lot of gall that takes. I wonder why that got to be such a common practice.

  What are you doing tonight/weekend?

  tonight i am going to be driving down to st. helens (not far from liverpool) with an aunt to drop off her car at a friends garage and then coming back with her, fortunately her friend is lending her a car otherwise we'd be stuck there lol.. saturday i am going to a bon-fire with family minus mum and stepdad (don't get me wrong i wish they were there).. sunday - no idea.... .

  a stout, kind hearted gentleman with two sons.

  This is going slightly off topic, but does anyone remember when they suggested that brothers considering marrying a sister should just show up at her house at different times with no warning? Then he could see how she really looked and acted when not dressed up for meetings, etc. Gag, gag, gag. Why didn't they just date like normal people? Yuk. I heard some of the brothers actually took this advice.

  then, if you are buying a home list that beside it.

  think about what it would take to make a real difference in your life.

  No debt at all! A few years ago the mortgage, student loans, and car payment seemed daunting. I hate being in debt. Credit cards come in handy, but I pay it off each month. My son once said that I was the least materialistic person he knew. I didn't think anyone other than witnesses used that word.
